Pingtell is an Android app that reads selected notifications aloud. It is designed to process notification content on your device and not to collect or store that content.

Information Pingtell Accesses

  • Notifications: If you grant Android notification-listener access, Pingtell can read notifications posted by apps on your device. It uses their content to apply your settings and speak selected notifications. Notification content is held temporarily in memory for processing and is not saved by Pingtell.
  • App information: Pingtell reads installed app names and package identifiers to show the app-selection list and apply your per-app settings. This information remains on your device.
  • Bluetooth device information: If you choose the specific-device Bluetooth rule, Pingtell requests Android's Nearby devices permission to list already-paired Bluetooth devices and identify whether the selected audio device is connected. Pingtell does not scan for, pair with, or connect to devices.
  • Text-to-speech: Pingtell passes text selected for reading to the system text-to-speech engine you choose. Voice availability and processing are provided by that engine. Downloaded offline voices can process speech on-device; some engines or voice configurations may use network services under their own privacy policies. Pingtell itself has no internet permission.

Storage, Sharing and Tracking

Pingtell does not operate an account or cloud service and does not include advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. It does not send notification content to Pingtell or to an app-operated server, and it does not share notification content with other apps. Speech is generated for playback and is not retained by Pingtell.

Your preferences are stored locally by Android on your device. Pingtell configures Android backup and device-transfer rules to exclude its app data.

Permissions

  • Notification access: required to receive notifications you choose to have read aloud. You can revoke it in Android Settings at any time.
  • Nearby devices (Bluetooth): requested only if you choose a specific paired Bluetooth device for the optional Bluetooth requirement.

Pingtell does not request microphone access.

Your Choices

You control which apps Pingtell reads, how much notification text is spoken, when it speaks, the selected audio output, and whether Bluetooth connectivity is required. You can pause Pingtell, change these settings, revoke permissions, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes Pingtell's locally stored preferences through Android.

Children's Privacy

Pingtell is a general-purpose utility and is not designed specifically for children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated when the app's functionality or data practices change. The latest version should be published alongside the app.
